On Youtube its feast or famine. One minute your watching the cutest kittens ever and then your watching a cyst removal, thats fucking disgusting.
Binaural Beats is one of the best things I’ve ever found on the internet.
The Science behind Binaural Beats:
Dr. Bill D. Schul also refers to the phenomenon of brain entrainment:
[P]hased sine waves at discernible sound frequencies, when blended to create ‘beat’ frequencies within the ranges of electrical brain waves found at the various stages of human sleep, will create a frequency following response (FFR) within the EEG pattern of the individual listening to such audio waveforms. The FFR in turn evokes physiological and mental states in direct relationship to the original stimulus. With the availability of this tool, it becomes possible to develop and hold the subject into any of the various stages of sleep, from light Alpha relaxation through Theta into Delta and in REM (dreaming). (5) Center Pointe
In other words you can use these sounds to speed up or slowdown brainwaves. The applications for this are endless. You can (as I do) use them to go to sleep, meditate, or use them in place of coffee.
Don’t use these while driving or in the bathtub or do and let darwinism take its place.
Beware of crappy vendors, as a general rule I don’t pay to use binaural beats BUT I did get a nice introduction 3 years ago via Holosync’s Awakening Prologue which I had heard about from Elliott Hulse
I haven’t listened to Holosync in a while but the benefits have been profound. I was going through a major life upheaval 3 years ago and Holosync made me feel calm and at ease at a time when I was drowning in stress and anxiety. Imagine distilling a deep 3 hour meditation in 30 minutes. Powerful stuff.
The next best thing I’ve found is this YouTube channel called Brain Power Music. I’ve listened to dozens of different channels in the past and BPM gives me the most consistent results and quality.
Binaurals can take your meditation to a new level if you have a hard time reaching a trance state, give you better sleep and improve your overall sense of well-being.
I have no affiliation with Centre Pointe or Brain Power Music but they do produce some amazing products, hence why I bring them up.
Peruse BPM’s channel and find out what works for you.
(uncountable) The belief in and worship of a supernatural controlling power, especially a personal god or gods.
(countable) A particular system of faith and worship.
Religion by the second definition, mainstream religion, is a scam.
Complete investment in a belief such as Christianity is slavery.
Now, before you smash your monitor to pieces, let me explain:
Religious Zealots cannot possibly think for themselves
I’m not against any particular religion but I am against irrational dogma. Religous zealots are zealots because they have substituted their god-given ability to think critically in exchange for group-think.
I should know, I was once a Zealot of sorts for the Institute Of Divine Metaphysical Research. The organization’s founder blatantly stole from well known Occultists such as Helena Blavatsky and other elements of the Sacred Name Movement, that began in the 1880’s. For 20 years, from birth, I was led astray by this organization. It was only after some introspection and investigation into claims of IDMR being a cult that it caused me to seek the one thing I valued most:
Do You Seek TRUTH from the Universe or ANSWERS from Men?
Around May 2013, my life and perspective changed forever after I saw this youtube video:
Who is God? Why do religious leaders ascribe petty human elements to god? Why do people buy into religion that’s man-made?
I mentioned what Henry Kinley did and who he stole from to create IDMR but make no mistake; you can see this pattern in many other religions. ALL Religions come from the “inspired vision” of some man, whether its Jesus, Zoroaster, Buddha, or Mohammed.
If GOD made us ALL in his likeness and image then why do we need the guidance and counsel of “inspired” MEN?
“We all like to believe that our fellow creatures are honest and sincere, people above ulterior motive and the exploiting instinct, but unfortunately such is not the case…the ignorant are exploited by the shrewd; nor has religion escaped the general contamination of the age. Numerous are the lies that are circulated in the name of Truth…” Manly P. Hall, Words to the Wise
Religion is a rigid system of beliefs used to systemically control other people. Evidence of this is found through eons of history: Vikings using Christianity to create coherent Christian Kingdoms and Emperor Constantine using Christianity and the Council of Nicea (deliberate removal of bible chapters) to consolidate his empire.
The “inspired” men take advantage of the human tendency to take the path of least resistance. Perhaps this tendency was an evolutionary survival strategy but its the biggest stumbling-block that any religious or spiritual person has in his journey to enlightenment and truth. Ministers will take advantage of this human tendency by applying the religion beliefs to the material world in a way that the convert can understand:
Habukuk 2:2, KJV“And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”
The message sent by the 10’s of thousands of Christian denominations and cults is anything but plain. People that want the truth are lead astray by snake-oil salesmen that rope-in the men or women that want to know God and instead, capitalizing on this innocent desire buy feeding the masses lies and falsehoods.
I’m no expert on tax law by any means, but I do know that many churches are 501.3C, tax exempt, and by definition “State Sponsored Religion”. Truly free thought is ham-strung by these towering state-sponsored organizations. In order to control people, which is what the State wants to do, you need to change and/or control how they think and this is done by the creation of a religion or religious sects.
Anyone with a belief can have and create their own religion, a great example of this is Henry Kinley who created IDMR in 1931. Mr. Kinley was a Freemason that blatantly took things from the Sacred Name Movement, Christianity (perhaps Rosicrucian), Theosophy, Freemasonry; and perverted them into what is now IDMR.
This, in my view, is why only a select few initiates were allowed in Pythagoras’ Mystery School. Fools will seek to pervert the mysteries and make them their own in order to profit from the ignorance of their fellow man and make themselves Gods.
With all that being said of the “inspired” ones, lets take a look at the sycophants and useful idiots that reinforce the quagmire falsehoods:
The Power of Religious Groups
“Groups do not have a personal conscience. What they do have is a collective center of gravity where some ideal or higher purpose becomes the driving for a collective mission. But the dark side of common idealism always builds around sex, money, and power over others, with individual human beings becoming the fuel to drive the mass mind.” John D. Goldhammer, Under The Influence: The Destructive Effects of Group Dynamics
Anyone who has seen Star Trek in popular culture know of the Borg: an almighty collective of formerly living breathing sentient beings assimilated into the ultimate group. Independent thought is not tolerated, the mere possiblity is never eluded to. The collective does what is best for the collective, period.
Real life is far more strange than fiction because the Borg operate on cold logic, Humans do not. Even more terrifying is the evolutionary strategy of humans being tribal by nature, is exploited heavily by religious groups and cults.
Your Lizard Brain is hard-wired to seek tribal affiliations
The tribal instinct kept our ancestors alive and today it keeps people with disparate personal beliefs under one collective mind. The most hardcore Zealots of the faith are given positions of power over the other converts. Bishops, Deans, Ayatollah, Priests, Deacons, and the list goes on. These ministers are the most hardcore and essential for keeping the collective tribe in line and finding new converts to rope in. These ministers are extensions and mouthpieces for the people that drive the collective: Popes, Cardinals, Sheikhs, Ayatollahs, and Founders. These extremely powerful men will claim to be the Vicar of God, when in reality they are but members of a very powerful brotherhood capable of bending the will of the masses because the masses would rather seek the counsel of men rather than find truth for themselves. Humans have a tendency to defer to authority: the authority is the one charting the course and the converts will always follow even to their ultimate doom. The group is the convert’s identity and consequences are quite dire if the convert were to oppose the group. Eons ago, being expelled from the tribe meant almost certain death, and so people will hang on to collective beliefs and fight to the death for them. Never once questioning those beliefs for fear of upsetting the collective, being expelled and losing part of their identity; their thoughts are not their own. So with this I must ask:
Do you really want truth?
The truth is never what you want it to be, in order to truly seek truth you must first question every belief you hold about the world and yourself.
You must be willing to see and face the demons that hold you back.
It is virtually impossible for a non-freethinking person bathed in religious dogma and group dynamics to find their own truth.
Ask yourself, “if Mohammed, Buddha, and Christ” found this “divine” secret to the universe then why can’t I? What could possibly make these mortal men superior to me?”. If you cannot bring yourself to ask this question then ask “why?”. We all have been given the ability to perceive our world without the guise of religion, the ability to think freely, to question held assumptions, whether our own or that of other people. Religion for better or worse, extinguishes much of this curiosity and tells us what to believe, how to think, and how to act. Laws do a good enough job in telling us how to act but you do not need a Pastor to tell you what to believe, how to think, and how to act!
You have a sixth sense that science has failed to adequately explain and you have the ability to control, as Wim Hof has demonstrated, your immune and nervous systems to some extent. You can seek truth on your own, without the aid of a minister that went Seminary School. But this requires the sense-of-self and the wherewithal to ask the questions that most would fear to ask:
Who am I?
What am I?
Are there higher beings?
What am I existing for?
Why am I reading religious texts written (or edited in the bible’s case) by dogmatic men?
Our society conditions us into believing that “Curiosity killed the cat” but in truth, boredom and humdrum misery killed the cat because society killed its curiosity.
Find the root of all religion and begin your descent into the rabbit hole, most people do not and never will have the burning desire for truth to descend.
Losing my religion was the most painful and revealing thing that has ever happened to me. It was akin to a blind man given the ability to see after 20 years without it. My entire life changed; I became healthier, mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Once you have let go of tightly held religious beliefs The self-assurance that dogmas give you will be replaced by first a deep terror that you have lost all sense of self. If you manage to overcome this trial without seeking another man’s religion to follow (and most will not), you will find a far truer enlightenment:
Realization of the Freedom to think whatever you want
“The Path that leadeth on is lighted by one fire – the light of daring burning in the heart. The more one dares, the more he shall obtain” Helena Blavatsky
The freedom to think is our greatest power to create and destroy that God / Nature / Allah has given us.
I am not an enlightened initiate or high-level Freemason by any means but I desire, love, and seek truth and for me that is greater than any happiness that can be found in any religion.
Meditation is well researched, a simple google search will tell you of many different health benefits from lowering blood pressure to expanding one’s spiritual awareness. The mere act of breathing deeply and mindfully during the day and being more mindful of how we are breathing fosters our mind and body connection.
Meditation is one way of us connecting our minds to our bodies. We aren’t just a brain attached to a body but actually a whole being and our body is as much “us” or “I” as the brain is.
In order to make the mind still make the body still. Sit in a chair with good posture or sit on the floor in whatever way is comfortable. Stance or positioning here does not matter, the key is that you are totally comfortable and relaxed; the position you assume is one you should be able to stay in for at least 30 minutes.
Once you have found comfort, close your eyes and breathe deeply. Focus only on breathing.
You may notice crazy random thoughts pop up in your head and that’s okay don’t berate yourself. Instead, observe the thoughts and gently let them go.
Breathing technique should be slow, soft, and rhythmic. Breathe until your lungs are ful and exhale, letting all the air out of your lungs and repeat. This pattern of breathing calms the body, the extra oxygen means your body isn’t working as hard.
You might find after you are totally relaxed that you will naturally return to a slightly shallower breath and that’s fine. I’ve been meditating for a while and I’ve found that sometimes, when I’m already relaxed, I feel better by taking a deep, lung-filling, breath and follow by a regular shallow exhale. The key is making it work for you and not fitting into any, one mold.
Do this for 5 minutes or however long it takes for you to relax and… your done!
“Wait, aren’t we suppose to transcend the physical plane and astral-project into an alternate universe when we meditate?”
Well, that’s not the intention of our meditation. The intention was to relax and foster self awareness. Things like Astral-Projection, are quite advanced and often times the people that do pull off the feat have meditated for years.
The vehicle that we use to reach heightened spiritual awareness is our minds. In order for us to reach new heights we must quell the chaos of the mind and tune into our bodies.
I meditated just before I published this article. My state of mind is one of calm and power, like the ocean. Whatever you set your intention to before you meditate is usually what you will get from the meditation. If there is a state of mind that you want to achieve, then set your intentions appropriately and tune into your body.
Find a quiet place and go meditate. 10 seconds, 10 minutes, 10 hours, it doesn’t matter, seek out the state of mind that you want to be and be it.
Alright guys here’s some advice people would pay serious money for. HOW TO HAVE AWESOME TEETH.
I’ve had tooth decay for years and even a cavity, I used bullshit flouride tooth paste that didn’t do shit (even at prescription doses).
After a year of flossing every night, and using Earthpaste I have near perfect teeth.
Earth paste works since its many of the same minerals your teeth are composed of and it will REMINERALIZE (naturally fill in) cavities. I would dip earth paste in a tooth powder just like this one. activated charcoal WHITENS teeth naturally and the other ingredients remineralize (heal) cavities. Limit sugary and soda intake to no more than once per week and bam cavities and lesions will actually fix themselves. The cavitiy I had a year ago is gone and I didn’t need a filing or surgery. Try it.
Your dentist will never ever tell you to “remineralize” your own teeth for obvious reasons.
Save yourself alot of pain and never go to the dentist again. If you brush with earthpaste, floss, and get a cleaning once a year for tartar build up…what the hell do you need a dentist for?
For all the bluster about carved abs and big biceps very little is ever said about having a strong back. Look around you, half of your co-workers have gone to doc for a back problems at some point and almost none of them have ever dead-lifted or squatted significant weight.
Strong back muscles help keep your spine in line, and makes it easier to have good posture because good posture and standing up straight takes more effort than hunching over.
I can never wrap my head around why people are so deathly afraid of heavy deadlifts. Just practice good technique and gradually increase the weights. Who the fuck said you had pick up 350? Try 135 and add a little to it.
How to build a stronger back, when you are weak
Lat Pull Downs
A favorite of mine for a long time. Develops your traps and upper back, great if you can’t do a pull-up since you are working out the muscles you need at the beginning of the pull-up movement. Its easier to perform the pull-ups from a dead hang if traps, lats and rhomboids are already strong.
Front and Side Planks are great for all-around core strength and stability. If normal planks bore you try them with a 50 pound vest.
Sit-ups and crunches are old standby’s but I always found that both waste alot of time, energy and effort. Better solution: Go get a Perfect Ab-Carver, it gives you all the benefits of sit-ups without all the wasted effort or spinal compression. Free Solution: dead hang from a pull-up bar and bring knees into chest or bring both legs up straight to a 90 degree angle (like your body is the letter L)
People often don’t associate a strong back with a strong core but this is a huge mistake, the truth is; you really can’t have one without the other. You NEED both, the two work in synergy when you lift heavy…whether its groceries or a barbell. A strong back and core is a match made in heaven.
Pull-ups: The King of Body-weight Exercises
The fittest military guys (especially Army, Marines and NSW) do pull-ups and do them often. No other body-weight exercise works out more muscles in a single movement than pull-ups. To get full benefit you must start from a “dead hang” which is simply hanging still on the bar without feet touching the ground. Go for chin over the bar and don’t use any momentum swings to get over the bar. ALL MUSCLE ALL THE WAY UP BABY!
A 4 x 4 scheme works fine starting out. Increase reps 1 per set per week(4×5, 4×6, etc,), the goal is to complete the the sets with good form. Better a few good pull-ups than shit-loads of half-assed ones. Don’t be afraid to use the pull-up machine if the strength isn’t there yet.
The Dead-Lift: King of All Exercises
There is no better feeling in the gym than making that barbell your bitch. Dead-lifts workout every muscle in your body; every part of your being is stressed when you dead-lift heavy. Its a deep visceral feeling.
For DL’s I keep my feet spread apart a little less than shoulder width and my back stays LASER-STRAIGHT. This is why you need good core strength; your core counterbalances and helps stabilize your spine. Lift from your HEELS and make sure the bar is close to your shins before the lift so you can lift into your “center of gravity”.
Routine is a matter of preference, some guys like doing a 5 x 5 routine, I don’t. I prefer the Body Of A Spartan routine where you do 10 HEAVY HEAVY single rep dead-lift. You get the most bang for your buck. The entire dead-lift movement is very taxing so why not just do it 10 times to get the pump instead of 25 times? Makes sense to me. My dead-lift went from 215 to 320 lbs in a month following Body Of A Spartan.
You must lift heavy to get strong. Incredibly simple and yet I always see the same guys dead lifting the same 95lbs day after day.
A strong back makes carrying life’s loads easier, a weak back will only bring pain and misery.
Go do some pull ups and dead lifts. NOW, or else live with a hunchback when you get old.
We are bombarded with “reasons” everyday to be stressed out. Society encourages you to stress about:
Missing the Walking Dead
Those idiots on the road
Work related stuff
where to go for lunch
Not getting laid enough
Not having the latest Iphone
Being broke as a joke
and much much more
Some of this stuff might count as legitimate concerns but none are worth increasing cortisol and adrenaline levels over with the exception of Number 8.
#8 is where I am right now, broke as hell, partially because I’ve invested some significant dough in myself and the website I’m building. But, I am not too worried about it.
Because I’ve emotionally detached myself from the stressor. In Dave Ellis’ “Becoming A Master Student”, he talks about using detachment to remove ourselves from stress by simply looking at our stressor outside of ourselves, as if its something completely external to us. Doing this enables us to defog our the car windows of our minds by briefly acting as though we have no stake.
Now that we have detached ourselves, we must take steps to calm our minds. Often the things that stress me out are:
Shit that happened in the past: “Why didn’t / did I do that…”
Shit that MIGHT happen in the future: “I’m broke, what if another bill comes?”
So I ask myself, “What is the worst that could happen?”, yeah I get it. Overdraft fees are the devil and you had sex with a very suspect partner last night but is stewing over it going to fix the damn problem?
You know the answer to this: of course not.
Often when we stew over things its because we aren’t checked in at the present moment and when we aren’t checked in at the present moment, we lose control of the narrative that goes on in our heads.
When the narrative is lost, we are lost, left to stew in the woe-is-me whirlpool of perpetual fucking doom. With each new faux stressor the whirlpool gets deeper and deeper, and we’ll either fight the current forever or drown in its depths (suicide). The best and healthiest way to fight against the swift current of whirlpool stress is….
To not fight against the current at all.
You see my friend, you created the monstrosity and only you can destroy the damn thing! Chances are, you are worried about what DID happen or COULD happen. Practice mindfulness and focus on the present. The hear and now, and whatever is right in front of you. Mike Cernovich has an awesome book called Gorilla Mindset and in it he talks about being mindful and present by”Checking into our bodies”, here’s what he means:
Take a few minutes and do this right now.
Feel the sensation of the air in the room on your skin…is it cool? Is it warm?
Listen to your breathing; how are you breathing? Are you breathing rapid shallow breaths? Deep relaxed breaths?
Listen to your body sensations starting at the feet and work your way up, from your toes, all the way to your finger tips and your brain. What do you feel?
They want to watch TV all day and see the commercials that tell you to mindlessly consume
They subtly control or influence every single one of your thoughts without you ever knowing the difference
Who are “They?”
Well, “They” are powerful enough to control your entire life until you do so. “They” are all the thoughts and influences you allow to reach the permeable membrane of your subconscious mind.
Sounds pretty fucking dystopic doesn’t it? The truth unfortunately is worst than any 20XX Orwellian sci-fi flick. The “They” I’m talking about are all people, advertisers, media, music, stimuli, environments that you allow in your life that influence you’re fragile subconscious mind. These influences form a web some call “The Matrix” and its a matrix in the sense that CONFORMITY is the norm and INDIVIDUALISM is shunned.
Humans are tribal by nature, we’ve been that way for 40,000 years, no one likes being shunned by the tribe. Tribalism is a major reason why people in the US never leave and go to other countries (government has a lot to do with it but that’s another post). The Big corporations and government take advantage of this tribalism by media campaigns, channels, websites, commercials, twitter hashtags, schools, welfare, and faux state-sponsored journalism to control the narrative and prevent INDIVIDUALISM. Sheep will go with the crowd to the slaughter while the wolves feast. Joe Somebody will go through his whole life living the manufactured “American Dream” and wonder what could have been.
What keeps him pinned keeps Joe stuck in the same shitty hood with the same shitty job? Joe has a wife, kids, a mortgage, two cars, slaving away making $40,000 a year after taxes, living paycheck to paycheck, possibly one divorce, foreclosure or lay-off from suicide.
But you know whats even worse?
Joe keeps the same company of losers he’s always had his whole life or most of it. He loves his friends. He grew up with his friends. He hangs out with his friends. He takes advice from friends….and family. but no matter how many career changes, divorces and marriages, or piddly 3% raises, Joe will never ever be truly be happy because he takes acceptance over true freedom.
Joe has no idea that his mind absorbs influences and suggestions like cells absorb materials via osmosis. His friends and family aren’t evil and probably mean well but as long as Joe stays in his tribe he will never get anywhere, be successful, or do awesome things because his tribe will drag him back down to the norm of mediocrity that they are used to.
There are 2 different kinds of freedom; the freedom to do what you really want and the freedom to think what you really want. Society tells you the things that it WANTS you to do and think.
So ask yourself:
Is this what I want or what society (family, friends, etc) wants?
Am I in control of my thoughts or is society controlling me?
Who are the people dragging me down?
Lets be honest, it takes cold hard cash to be truly free. I don’t have that in abundance yet but I have an abundance mindset. I fired every person in my life that negatively influenced my mindset for years and my current career really took off and the dead weight came off my shoulders.
No, it’s not easy to tell your own Father, Mother, or Step-Mother or childhood friends to get lost and perhaps you won’t have to but the pain of lose for me was short-lived and I’ve never been more alive or free.
Do you want freedom?
Are you afraid of freedom?
Joe could have chose his allies and influences and chose not to.
“Are you okay?”, said the lifeguard as I traversed the deep brown muddy water 50 meters from land. The cold filthy water soothed my bruised, torn and aching body.
I was halfway through the greatest athletic challenge of my life: The 2014 Spartan Super in Marseilles, IL. The course was set on extremely muddy and hilly terrain made for ATV’s. The goal of the race for me was simple: finish the 8+ mile, 25+ obstacle race.
The only training I did was a couple months of running and calisthenics where I ran 8 miles exactly one time. The first obstacle, an 8 foot wall, had to be scaled before the race began with the help of a fellow racer I managed to vault my 5’9, 200 pound, 20% body fat, body over the wall. As I looked at the other 100 racers in the heat I saw people of all kinds; from old men to conditioned athletes to soccer moms. The first obstacle, before the race even started, made me understand that the organizers weren’t fucking around, this race was going to be long, painful, and hard.
REMEMBER THIS DAY, MEN, FOR IT WILL BE YOURS FOR ALL TIME! GO!!!
And with a fitting line from my all-time favorite movie, we were off. I was pumped, fearless and ready for the pain ahead. The course started out smooth with a couple easy yet muddy obstacles and then the nightmare started. Unfortunately I managed to fuck myself over before the race even began by wearing the wrong shoes. You see, for muddy course you need shoes that will create traction for you and mine were smooth five-toe, weight-lifting shoes.
The course was laden with steep, muddy 30% grade hills. My shoes had zero traction which forced me to search for even the smallest foot hold, branch, or helping hand. Often after climbing a hill there was another hill and another hill. I recall seeing my salvation in a tiny thimble sized root, grabbed it and used it to pull my entire body over a hill, other times the roots or branches would break and I would come within a hairs breadth of tumbling down the hill and probably breaking an arm or leg.
The hills often preceded travel across some difficult and dangerous terrain. I can’t count how many times I fell jumping across natural obstacles like creeks. There was actually a ravine that was 20 feet deep and 15 feet across that I managed to clear by the skin of my teeth. 2 miles into the course I felt like I had run an entire 8 mile race. “What the fuck, I didn’t train for any of this!”, I thought but still I stormed on. The obstacles were challenging and varied, from rope climbing and spear throwing to pulling 150 pounds upward with a pulley and burpees. Every time and obstacle was missed, 30 burpees were required. I probably did around 500 that day.
After mile 2 my injuries began to pile on; severely strained both IT bands, numerous cuts, blisters on feet, sprained, ankle, knee, and shoulder. I actually purposefully dislocated my own shoulder to scale a 10-12 foot wall and popped it back in place, such was my pain tolerance at this point. Crazy enough, I didn’t think to bring any electrolytes with me and the course only supplied water, I would stop dead in my tracks several times due to cramps and dehydration, racer upon racer looking at me in pity asking me if I was okay.
I would finish the race in 4 hours having limped for 6 of the 8+ mile course through brutal, punishing , and unforgiving terrain. I jumped 10 feet across the firey coals and met a throng of spectators and race staff.
I was a little more than dazed, confused, tearful, and in total disbelief that I actually made it. The feeling was euphoric, “So this is what they meant when they said ‘You’ll know at the finish line'” I thought. I shared my joy with my fellow racers crossing the finish line and practically swallowed the most delicious banana I’ve ever had in my life; shit tasted like fucking ice-cream!
And it was over. Recovery from the race would require a couple months of physical therapy and a bout of fever a couple days after the race. However, since the race, to quote the Spartan Race founder Joe D. My frame of reference was “reset”, life just didn’t seem so stressful or hard anymore. I became the toughest guy I know. I know what true mental toughness is, having experienced the shit-fest that was the Spartan Super
1. Your mind will often give in long before your body does. Even “injured” your body is one tough motherfucker. Your mind will rationalize quitting to ensure its survival…Don’t let it! Focusing on staying in the moment and the task in front of you is the only way to overcome an extreme level of adversity.
2. Proper training and preparation could have prevented all of my injuries and resulting therapy, hell, the right footwear would have prevented most of my injuries. If you are going to do an OCR (obstacle course race), get appropriate OCR shoes and at least a belt to hold some electrolyte bottles.
3. Training regimen for an OCR is way different from a traditional race, I recommend Martial Arts, MMA, and/or functional training in addition to a weight training and running regimen. No high-rep bloated muscle body-part isolation bullshit, you need a fair amount of strength and muscular endurance. Here’s some resources that will get you started:
The man who I revered and looked up to my whole life was choking the shit out of me and stopped just short of putting me to sleep. My dad had a violent temper, I was often beaten for little reason and the leather belt would leave cuts and welts on my body that would sting at least a week. I even went to church once with a black eye. This time was different, this time there would be no return to “normalcy” for me.
For a good 3 years after I left the nest and joined the Navy I buried the past and did what society and my conscience was telling me to do: make good with my family and pretend nothing happened.
That shit didn’t fucking work.
For a while I had nightmares of the choking among other things, I had zero self-confidence or self esteem. I couldn’t handle sitting through Domestic Violence command trainings and listening to others make light of the topic. At last I couldn’t take it anymore and so I sought the counsel of a Chaplain in 2009 or 2010. Chaps told me to confront my demons and tell my dad how I felt but I didn’t have it in me, I was too afraid. I didn’t have the guts to upset the status quo I had built and it wouldn’t be until October 2013 when I finally stopped playing house and sent my abuser a long email.
When I sent that email and told my dad how I felt and how I wanted nothing else to do with him or my family my entire life and outlook changed. I applied the things I learned from “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and in the last 22 months since then I:
-Earned the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal
-Vastly improved work evals and earned Sailor Of The Quarter.
– Became one of the very best at what I do, which is making sure sailors are medically ready to deploy in harms way.
The awards and accolades are nice but the best part is the freedom you have when you get rid of a relationship that doesn’t add value to your life. I have neither time nor desire to “fix” worthless relationships, I have absolutely no desire to be around the people that put me down and treated me like shit my whole life or meet people like them.
Get rid of deadweight relationships and you’ll be glad you did. Hey, it just might be the one thing that’s holding you back.
