Binaural Beats are one of the most effective ways to relax I have found.
Years ago I used to struggle with depression and anxiety stemming from abuse I experienced as a child. A counselor offered that I see psychiatrist but I wasn’t having it, I didn’t want to end up pouring my heart out to some person who would’ve just prescribed me some medication.
So what did I do?
I decided to treat myself and thats right around when I discovered binaural beats.
I discovered binaural beats from Elliot Hulse’s Four Pillars of Strength (i think thats the name). He recommended Holosync and I tried it out. My reaction was..
A feeling of complete and indescribable relaxation came over me and I felt my anxiety wash away. I was sold on brain entrainment from that point on. These days I don’t use holosync and mostly use Youtube videos, which are almost as good as the paid programs anyway, or close enough. I’ve been sold on the beats ever since. Heres the science behind them:
A binaural beat is an auditory illusionperceived when two different pure-tone sine waves, both with frequencies lower than 1500 Hz, with less than a 40 Hz difference between them, are presented to a listener dichotically (one through each ear). For example, if a 530 Hz pure tone is presented to a subject’s right ear, while a 520 Hz pure tone is presented to the subject’s left ear, the listener will perceive the auditory illusion of a third tone, in addition to the two pure-tones presented to each ear. The third sound is called a binaural beat, and in this example would have a perceivedpitch correlating to a frequency of 10 Hz, that being the difference between the 530 Hz and 520 Hz pure tones presented to each ear.
The result of listening to the beats result in whats called “entrainment” where your brainwave are affected by the soundwaves. There is some controversy concerning the exact science of entrainment and whether or not it actually works but in my opinion:
The science is meaningless
If you get any subjective benefit from entrainment then the means become the ends. If you THINK its helping you, it will help you and it helps that the beats are so relaxing to listen to.
Binaural beats have been anecdotally linked to helping treat a myriad of mental conditions including PTSD. Not saying its a cure all but that it COULD help.
I know it after I use the beats I’m relaxed, at-peace, and have a general feeling of well being thats hard to describe.
Now you’re eager to see what all the hoopla is about but your wondering how much this stuff costs. Well, you don’t have to pay for a fancy program like Holosync, everything is free on Youtube. Here are some of the videos I use:
The best track for sleep I’ve found, keep at a low volume, wear some earbuds and melt away.
One of the best meditation aids on the internet, great for people who aren’t knew to meditation and/or have experience with martial arts. Makes it much easier to reach Theta and Delta brainwave states.
